Two Petersburg Generals received league-wide honors from the Coastal Plain League .
Daniel Wood (VMI ), a left-handed pitcher, received the power pitcher award.
Wood’s award is well earned, as he has just a 2.45 ERA in 18 appearances for the Generals. In 36.2 innings, Wood has contributed five saves, and an opponent batting average of just .233.
Daniel Barnes (Princeton ) received the Pitcher of the Week award, which
is given weekly to a standout pitcher in the league. Barnes, a freshman
right-handed pitcher, has just a 2.76 ERA, with a 4-1 record for the
Generals. In nine appearances and seven starts, Barnes has allowed just a .213 opponent batting average.
“These two pitchers have been vital to the Generals this year. Their
hard work and great ability make them worthy recipients of these
awards,” said Generals’ president, Dr. Larry Toombs.
The Petersburg Generals are a member of the Coastal Plain League , the
nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its
twelfth season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in
North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college
players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past
experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. For
